The challenging mess made by manual systems

Before implementing Propel, MaryRuth’s relied on Google Drive to manage product documentation, specifications, and labeling artifacts. Change activity, including reformulations, duplications, and packaging updates, required manual coordination across departments, resulting in delays and operational risk. To mitigate these challenges, Leadership required a scalable system of record that could unify product information, govern controlled change workflows, and support cross-functional collaboration across quality, compliance, operations, and product development.

“With Propel we were able to streamline processes, improve data efficiency, and have faster access to all the critical information that's needed for the product. We got everything we asked for.”

Diana Sehawneh, Senior Project Manager, Continuous Improvement

Starting with one QMS module, then PLM, and beyond

MaryRuth’s went live with Propel in 2021, initially deploying document management, revision control, and structured change management capabilities. Over time, the organization expanded its usage to include broader PLM functionality, which is now heavily utilized. Additionally, supplier-facing inspection processes were transitioned into a portal-based workflow within Propel. Instead of manually routing inspection documents or relying on external signature tools, inspectors now complete inspection records directly within the system, significantly reducing administrative overhead and improving traceability.

The astounding benefits of transformation

An independent ROI case study conducted by Nucleus Research analyzed the costs of personnel time, implementation resources, and training over a three-year period to quantify MaryRuth’s total investment in Propel.

Nucleus found that since implementing Propel, MaryRuth's achieved:

  • 1,508% ROI
  • Savings of $30,000 each year
  • Expanded its ticket management capacity by more than 2,000%
  • Reduction in time to market for product launches and updates by 30%
  • Labeling and product data tracking errors decreased by 90%
